Delicacies Of the Ilocos Region

Here are some of the native delicacies of the ilocos region.

1. Sapin Sapin

Sapin-sapin is a Filipino rice cake made from glutinous rice and coconut milk. This delicious dessert dish is usually composed of layers each with a different color and flavor. Normally, sapin-sapin is composed of 3 layers: the bottom layer is colored yellow and has the flavor of ripe jackfruit; the middle layer is white and has the flavor of young coconut or just plain coconut milk; the topmost layer is violet in color and has the flavor of purple yam. Sapin-sapin is topped with latik, which is a coconut milk residue.




2.Bagnet

Bagnet is a deep fried crispy pork belly dish that is similar to lechon kawali. It originated from Ilocos and is considered to be a top favorite among Filipinos. This is best served bagoong monamon. it is a dip made of fermented anchovies.

3. Beef Empanada



Beef Empanada (also called empanadas) is a type of ground beef turnover. Empanada is of Hisrward explanation of what an empanada should be. 4.Puto

Puto, the Filipino rice cake is made from cooked rice that has been soaked and ground up to make the rice dough or galapong.
Then coconut milk, sugar and leavening is added before steaming.
It is pretty much the same as the Chinese's Steamed Rice Cake.





5.Halayang Ube


Halayang Ube or Purple Yam Ube dessert is quite common during holidays, town fiesta(feasts) and special occasions.
The preparation is quite easy, the tedious work is in the mixing on the pan until all the liquid has incorporated into the yam and it's thick and sticky.




This is my 5 Must EAT delicacies of the ilocos region. There are many more but this is my most favorite of all of them.
